Our role
The Gauteng Provincial Legislature holds the Executive accountable by ensuring that the Executive and all provincial departments implement legislation, policies and programmes effectively and in the best interests of the people of Gauteng.
Through committees, questions, debates and oversight visits, the GPL monitors government performance and promotes transparent, accountable and responsive governance.
Oversight mechanisms
The GPL uses a range of mechanisms to hold the Executive to account.
Committees monitor and evaluate departmental performance.
Members ask questions to obtain information and hold departments accountable.
The Legislature debates matters of public interest and adopts resolutions to inform action.
Site visits to assess service delivery and implementation on the ground.
