Deputy Chairperson of Committees 7th Legislature (2024 – 2029)

Mr Thulani Monty Kunene was appointed as the Deputy Chairperson of Committees of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature on 14 June 2024. He supports the Chairperson in overseeing and strengthening the work of portfolio and oversight committees, and contributes to ensuring effective, transparent and accountable legislative processes.

Mr Thulani Monty Kunene is a dedicated public servant and leader with extensive experience in governance, stakeholder engagement and community development.

He has served in various leadership and community roles, contributing to the advancement of democratic governance and the empowerment of communities across Gauteng.

His appointment as Deputy Chairperson of Committees reflects the Legislature’s commitment to inclusive, people-centred and accountable leadership.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Deputy Chairperson of Committees supports the Chairperson in:

  • Assisting the Chairperson

    Supports the Chairperson in overseeing the work of all portfolio and oversight committees.

  • Ensuring effective processes

    Promotes adherence to the rules of the Legislature and ensures efficient committee proceedings.

  • Strengthening accountability

    Contributes to transparency and accountability in the work of committees.
